The service

What Leadwork Involves

Lead seals the junctions on a roof: where it meets a chimney or wall, where two slopes meet in a valley, and around dormers and roof windows. It's flexible, long-lasting and can be shaped to fit exactly.

You need leadwork when flashings have lifted, cracked or gone missing, when valleys are leaking, or when lead has been replaced with cheap substitutes or sealant that have failed.

Lead has to be the right thickness for the job, dressed carefully, fixed into the brickwork and laid in lengths short enough to allow for expansion. Done wrong, it splits or lifts within a few years.

If it's left

What Happens If You
Wait Another Winter

Leaks at junctions

Failed flashings let water straight into the roof structure where it meets walls and chimneys.

Valley failures

Valleys carry a lot of water. A failure here can soak a large area of the roof quickly.

Theft or missing lead

Missing lead leaves an open joint that lets rain in at every downpour.

Sealant failures

Mastic and tape quick-fixes crack in the sun and frost and need redoing again and again.

Common Mistakes
Homeowners Make

  • Using lead that's too thin for the job
  • Laying lengths that are too long, so they split as they expand
  • Relying on mastic instead of chasing lead into the mortar joint

In detail

Leadwork Across
Leicester & Blaby

Flashings, aprons and soakers

We fit step and cover flashings, aprons and soakers where the roof meets walls and chimneys, chased into the mortar joints and pointed.

Lead valleys

Where two slopes meet, we can renew the valley in lead, laid on a suitable base so water runs off cleanly.

Dormers and roof windows

Lead is used around dormer cheeks and roof windows to seal the openings fully.

As part of a re-roof

On a re-roof we renew the leadwork at the same time, so the whole roof is guaranteed together.

Homes and Rental Properties

Most of our leadwork work is for homeowners, from terraces and semis to bungalows and detached houses. We also work for landlords who need a reliable fix and a clear record of what was done. Every job gets the same approach: a proper look at the roof, photos of what we find, and a fixed price before anything starts. If you're a landlord or a prospective buyer rather than the owner occupier, a £75 fee applies to the inspection; for homeowners it's free.

How to Choose a Roofer

Ask for a written, fixed price rather than a day rate, so the cost can't creep up once the scaffold is up. Ask to see photos of the problem before agreeing to anything. Check the guarantee, and get it in writing. Ask who will actually be on your roof. With us, it's Bobby Button and a team of four from start to finish, and the guarantee for your job is confirmed with your quote.

What to Expect on the Day

We turn up when we say we will and talk you through the plan before work starts. The roof is kept weathertight at the end of every working day, and we clear away old materials and debris as we go. When the job is finished we check it over, show you the completed work and tidy the site properly, so the only thing you notice is a roof that works.

Your Guarantee, Explained

Guarantee length depends on the type of work. A new roof is guaranteed for 25 years as standard. Work involving breathable membrane, including many leak repairs, is usually guaranteed for 10 years and in some cases 5. Cement work such as mortar and pointing is guaranteed for 5 years. Whatever your leadwork involves, the exact guarantee is written into your quote, so you know where you stand before you say yes.

"Robert and his team done a fantastic job. I had a leak on my roof which they fixed very promptly, I also had them re-point my ridge tiles on my roof and it looks great. Very happy with the service, would definitely recommend."
